The cafe was purchased in late 1991 with the intent of turning the building into an antique store and closing the cafe. However plans changed and only the original one room "banquet community room" (original cafe) was turned into the shop. The owner continued to cook meals for the local community and tourist who stopped in the "Adrian Cafe". By 1995, the owner learned that the cafe was ideally located at the center, or midpoint, of the old Historic Route 66 and the cafe name was changed from the Adrian Cafe to the "Midpoint Cafe and Gift Shop". At the same time the cafe was redecorated yet again to replicate the look and feel of the cafe as it was back in the '50's and '60's.
